Accessory Guide

Pre-engineered Metal Building Accessories

If you can attach it to a pre-engineered metal building system, then we’ve done it, installed and have opinions to share on what works and what—despite sounding good—might not be the best fit for your application.  Our estimating team would be happy to chat with you about any of the accessories below and more.

PEMB Accessories

Insulation

  • The most common add-on component we sell, Ostro Steel Structures offers various types of faced and unfaced insulation, from a basic 3” R-10 system to high R-value commercial systems.
  • Upgraded fiberglass systems, commonly called “liner systems,” provide high R-value, high visual appeal, and high reflectivity for your interior lighting systems. Many of our customers use this system as a one-stop solution and forego drop ceilings, drywall and other interior finishes.
  • We offer various facing options, from a basic vapor retarding layer to thicker, custom facings for gymnasiums where impacts are common.
  • Unlike the big box hardware store version, our insulation is entirely inorganic to inhibit mold.

Standing Seam Roofing

  • Ostro Steel Structures offers a standing seam roof system to boost durability, longevity and weather protection to the highest level.  Rollformed in-house by our craftsmen using our Ostro-3000 panel profile in thicker 24ga steel, this upgraded system comprises a series of high-strength, 3” trapezoidal rib panels that are permanently and mechanically interlocked both with each other and to a system of field-installed roofing clips.
  • For a more residential look, we also offer a vertical rib standing seam solution.

Insulated Metal Panels

  • Insulated Metal Panels (“IMP”) are becoming more and more common in the market as energy codes become more stringent.
  • A “one stop solution,” IMP combines three common metal buildings features into one product: exterior metal cladding, insulation and interior metal liner panel.
  • Using a hot foam-fill process, a layer of dense foam is layered between two 26ga metal panels; hence the common name “sandwich panel”.
  • IMP can reduce installation time vs. purchasing components separately, as the installer only needs to hang one layer of exterior cladding instead of separately mounting interior and exterior panel and insulation.

Roll-Up Doors

  • Similar to insulation, most of our customers include a roll-up door (or several!) in their Ostro metal building system.
  • These large doors come in various size combinations, but keeping them square tends to yield the best pricing (i.e., 8’ x 8’ or 14’ x 14’).
  • Roll-up doors can be ordered insulated, but if R-value is critical, other solutions (such as overhead sectional doors) may be a better fit.
  • Our standard color is white, but please ask your Ostro estimator if a different color would complete your perfect look.

Service Doors

  • You have to get into your Ostro metal building system somehow!  Most customers include at least one service door for basic ingress/egress.
  • Our shop standard is an 18-20ga. solid steel frame and leaf combination with polystyrene foam insulation.
  • In addition, we offer both knock-down and pre-hung door systems, as well as quarter glass (sidelight), half glass or full glass options.
  • For commercial applications, it’s generally discouraged (including by OSHA) to use a roll-up or other large door for personnel ingress/egress, so service doors commonly are installed adjacent to roll-up doors.

Windows

  • Ostro offers a full slate of horizontal slide, vertical slide and fixed window, in clear and smoke tints.
  • For projects local to the Augusta area, please ask your Ostro estimator about our storefront glass options.

Interior Liner Panel

  • You’d be surprised how often our customer service team gets requests for extra panels after somebody accidentally pokes a hole into wall insulation, be it with a sharp hand tool or by running a forklift into it (seriously, we get this call at least once a month).
  • Interior steel liner panel systems help protect against these types of issues by providing an interior barrier.
  • In addition to protecting your walls, liner is also a handy option for mounting various items, such as airline, conduit or electrical receptacles.
  • Some customers opt to run liner panel only to the first girt (so 7’ – 8’), whereas others might install full-height liner panel
  • Ceiling liner is common as well to give your building a finished look

Canopy Systems

  • Ostro offers a wide variety of canopies to fit various architectural styles.
  • Most frequently, canopies are installed over service doors to provide rain shelter for people entering or exiting structures

Parapets

  • We design a lot of parapets for retail and commercial buildings in high-traffic areas where zoning requires a certain flat-roof look or a customer wishes to hide unsightly roof-mounted mechanical systems
  • Essentially a vertical extension of your wall system to a fixed and constant height above your roofline, these systems give the appearance of a flat roof, even though the actual roof is sloped.
  • You therefore get the benefit of water drainage from the roof’s slope, while picking up additional frontage for signs and branding.

Mezzanine Systems

  • Ostro’s custom designs and fabricates mezzanine systems though its Legion Mezzanine System banner.
  • We offer both built-in systems for new construction and self-supporting systems that seamlessly install in retrofit applications.
  • Purchasing a Legion Mezzanine System from Ostro Steel Structures gives you the peace of mind that you’ve bought a seamless system with single-source accountability—no more worrying about whether your mezzanine will fit correctly or provide adequate support for your valuable equipment and goods.

Fans and Louvers

  • Airflow is critical in any structure to regulate temperature, cycle stagnant air, clear contaminants, and control humidity.  In non-climate controlled buildings, a system of fans and louvers often is used to service this purpose.
  • Ostro offers fans and louvers in various sizes and specs to strike the right balance of these factors and address your specific needs.

Hangar Doors

  • Our hangar customers tend to be some of our most discerning and well-informed buyers, so we see about an even split between (i) Ostro supplying hangar doors or (ii) the customer purchasing them directly.
  • Either way works just fine for us!  BUT, if you’re purchasing your own hangar door, please be sure to send us all the specifications (in particular total weight) so that we can design your Ostro metal building system appropriately for your door.
  • Our sister company—CSBS Project Services—erects metal building systems every day and has installed all types of hangar doors, including all the usual bi-fold suspects as well as large, multi-panel sliding doors. Your Ostro estimator can include installation pricing upon request.

Roof Curbs, Walkways, and Ladders

  • When installing a penetration in a metal building roofing system, you need a structured curb to ensure the opening is weathertight and provide a platform whatever is being mounted (i.e., skylights, mechanical equipment, etc.).
  • In addition to curbs, Ostro also supplies custom walkway and railing systems, as well as access ladders.

Snow Retention Bars

  • At our factory in Georgia, snow isn’t exactly something we see very often.  But, since many of our Ostro colleagues have moved South from the frigid North, we know a thing or two about snow.
  • If you’re not planning on moving to a warmer climate like us, you might want to consider adding a snow retention system on your roof.  This system holds the snowfall on the roof to give it time to melt, which prevents large chunks or sheets of ice and snow from falling from your roof all at once.  The system therefore is a critical piece of equipment for protecting both people on the ground and your gutters.
